T’ai Chi Ch’uan

thai chiT’ai Chi Ch’uan is a system of exercise which was developed hundreds of years ago in China, and is still widely practised there.

At its simplest, T’ai Chi can be described as a series of continuous, co-ordinated movements in which there is equal emphasis on precision and flow.

We learn the Yang style long form at our class. The aim is not merely to learn the form, but, during the process of learning it, to assimilate it into our daily lives. So from the first lesson onwards there are benefits to be gained, and we each respond to it in our own individual way.

Although in this class we do not learn t’ai chi as a martial art, the influence of that is apparent in the development of grounding, balance, and yielding. We learn t’ai chi as a physical exercise, as a moving meditation, and as an inner journey in which many of the movements have a symbolic meaning.,

Although we have already learned some of the sequence of movements called the form, it would still be possible to join the class. The opening exercises are easy to join in, and the form can be followed from others

The class is on Monday evenings from 20.00 hrs until 21.00 hrs. This class has learnt the whole form, but it would still be possible to join if you have already done some t’ai chi before.

There is no set charge for the class, but a donation of up to £2 can be given if wished.
